DIRECTOR of ELECTRONICS

 


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Electronics is responsible for managing a multidivisional group of engineers that is responsible for the design and development of hardware and software for new and existing products. This position is expected to finalize and execute our new electronic hardware and software development strategy. The foundation of this strategy is to use supplier resources to design and develop the electronics hardware thus assuring state of the art component utilization and optimum design for manufacture. Software is to be developed by either internal or supplier based resources depending upon schedule and strategic importance. This position will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement into the electronics development process assuring on time delivery of proven electronics and software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manage a small to medium group of software and hardware engineers working on multiple projects in multiple locations.
  2. Assure that adequate specifications and documentation are developed and maintained for all new projects.
  3. Forecast, obtain and maintain required resources to achieve project schedules.
  4. Hold regular departmental meetings and promote an environment conducive to free exchange of information and flow of ideas.
  5. Mentor and train less senior personnel
  6. Monitor project progress and communicate status of issues and concerns to the project team and Vice President, Engineering.
  7. Assume primary role in conflict resolution among department members.
  8. Assume responsibility for project and support work, as deemed necessary by resource availability.
  9. Initiate and lead efforts in the creation and development of world class electronics development processes, procedures, and guidelines.
  10. Direct the workflow and activities of an engineering group.
  11. Track and manage all project costs within budgetary guidelines.
  12. Manage product design and development for new or existing products.
  13. Function as a staff specialist/technical advisor for assigned area of responsibility and expertise.
  14. Serve as back up for subordinate positions within the group, as needed.
  15. Maintain good understanding of the market in order to define the direction for new features.
  16. Maintain training and development plans for direct reports and overall department.
  17. Maintain focus on continuous improvement through researching and sourcing innovative, cost–efficient business solutions.
  18. Adhere to all Company policies, safeguard the company's interests and act in an ethical and legal manner as well as report all violations of Company policies and procedures to appropriate management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, required. Advanced degree, preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years experience in progressively responsible positions in the field of specialty.
  • Minimum six years working experience in a lead role on a software team. Experience should include working with other programmers and hardware designers to define interfaces, differentiate tasks, and determine compromise solutions.
  • Minimum six years experience using C/C++ programming language in real-time embedded systems.
  • Minimum six years experience in circuit design for microprocessor systems, motor control circuits, power supplies, and interface circuits.
  • Ability to design for reliability in harsh environments and for agency (UL, CE, FCC) approvals.
  • Three to five years experience in managing technical personnel and complex activities.
  • Proven analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • Solid organizational abilities, attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of MS Office (Word, Excel).
